4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful 2.1 AMP / 10 Watt per Port Charger Charges 2 high AMP Devices Simultaneously April 29, 2013
By S. Singh VINE™ VOICE
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
The 2.1 AMP chargers give you the charging power of your iPhone wall outlet chargers on the go. Initially, I scoffed at the price for these high AMP chargers and bought a 1 AMP car charger. Since my ride to work in less than 20 minutes, I would probably get 10% more charge off the 1 AMP charger, but with this 2.1 AMP charger, I manage to juice up about 25%. The really cool part of this charger is that I can pull out the USB cable and continue charging my phone via my laptop USB port.

The charger is similar in design to the Griffin PowerJolt Dual Universal USB Car Charger for iPhone, iPod, PDA, Cellphone, MP3 - robust construction but bulky, though I am unsure of the need of such a large case (almost 2x) when Scosche has managed the same in a slimmer profile - SCOSCHE usbc202m VOLT c2 - Dual 10 Watt (2.1A) USB Car Charger - Car Charger - Retail Packaging - Black

The charger has a dull blue bezel which keeps lit when the charger is plugged in. I prefer this for night driving over the single LED. I also like the new low-profile negative (outer) terminal design. No more accidental snagging and ripping the terminal out of the charger. It also helps with a smoother insertion and removal from the power outlet.

The lightning connector is well designed and fits most cases without any issue (check images above)

At current market prices this slightly bulky dual 2.1 AMP USB charger is better value than any other single 2.1 AMP USB charger.

Pros:
* 2 USB Port with 2.1 AMP / 10 Watts per port
* Solid feel to the product. Well built and sturdy parts - charger, cable and lightning connector
* Included USB Lightning cable
* Fast charging - almost as fast as a wall outlet charger. Approx 2.5 hours for a full charge
* Well designed lightning connector fits most cases without any issue

Cons:
* Pricey at $35 - but not too expensive at current market rates for a dual (or single) 2.1 AMP charger with a reliable, detachable Lightning cable
* Bulky design
* The charger has a dull blue bezel that remains on when the charger is connected. It seems inefficient to power the gremlins. I have old USB car chargers that turn-off when a device is not plugged in, light up Red when charging and Green when fully charged - I paid less than $10 for those chargers
* For a car, I prefer a coiled cable like this one, just keeps things compact - Griffin Tech PowerJolt SE Coiled Lightning Car Charger for iPhone 5, Touch 5G, Nano 7G

5.0 out of 5 stars OEM Apple Battery -- BE NOT AFRAID! May 22, 2013

This battery is identical to the one that I pulled out of my iPhone 5! I've had it for a year now, and it's starting to wear down, so I looked to Amazon to find a replacement!

Installation wasn't too tricky, although you have to be extra careful not to damage any of the internal components. The new battery makes it as if I just took the phone out of the box!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great screen protector! November 6, 2012
By Natalia Portier
Amazon Verified Purchase
Before I bought this protector, I read some reviews saying that there were air bubbles problems, and that the feeling of the screen was weird. I dismiss both of those statements. Firs, make sure you are applying your screen protector in a high humidity area (like bathroom with running hot shower), it will help to settle dust in the air, so it doesn't lay on your screen after you cleaned it. Next, make sure to clean your screen very very well (turn it off to see better) with the enclosed cloth. Only then remove protective film from side 1 of your screen protector. Make sure not to touch sticky side with your fingers. Apply starting with one corner (I started with bottom left to make sure the home button fits perfectly). If you do like I said - in the damp steamy room, you won't have any bubbles to remove. At least I didn't.
Feeling of the screen is different only the first time of using - for like a second. Hope this helped!

5.0 out of 5 stars First authentic iphone 5 car charger certified by AT&T January 9, 2013
By JD
This charger is the first one I settled for after the lightning cable was released by Apple when they launched the iphone 5. Has an extra port so if you have a micro or old iphone 30 pin cable, you can also use that. Very happy so far. I used the white lightning cable in the car but it is short. The car charger cable is coiled and can exten up to the rear, so that makes the life a bit easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding protection with definite drawbacks - UPDATED September 24, 2012
By Gabriel Marcial
Product Packaging:Retail|Color Name:Black
Review Update (5/28)

I recently switched to another case after over 7 months of hard use. Three reasons: 1) aesthetics, 2) the headphone jack, and 3)the screen protector. I've left my original review intact after the break.

Summary: While this case is no longer the best protection available for the iPhone 5, it's a great value as a solid no-frills case. This case is still compelling at its new price point despite how long its been on the market. See my original review below for more detail.

Additional Thoughts: The headphone jack issue and screen protector feel ultimately had me searching for a new case. Many of the newer cases, including some from Otter Box, are much more feature-rich and offer even better protection than this case at higher price points.

Updated Aesthetics: The utilitarian look and feel of the case turns out to have at least one major benefit: you can beat this case up without guilt. I had several major drops and bumps with this case. The result? Zero damage to the iPhone and negligible visible damage to the Otter Box rubber bumper. My newer case, while nicer to look at, doesn't tolerate wear and tear nearly as well.

===

Original Review (9/24)

Summary: If you're looking for the best protection for your iPhone 5 right now, this is the case you're looking for. The fit on the iPhone 5 is superb, and the peace of mind it will bring you is worth the cost of entry if protection is the utmost priority. The case makes some compromises to afford you that protection, which could be a dealbreaker if you're not totally onboard with a bulkier case. I'll detail those below.

Installation: Installation is a breeze if you've ever used an OtterBox case before (I hadn't). The best way to start is to open up the tab on the upper left corner by the volume controls, then pull the silicone bumper off the case with your fingertips. Things are easy from that point on.

Durability: Rock solid. I field tested this in NYC over the weekend, and the case acquitted itself very well. Wasn't at all worried about it, and minor bumps and the usual commuter jostling while trekking around the city were no match for this case. I haven't dropped it yet, but would be willing to bet the phone that it will survive the usual momentarily clumsiness onto city sidewalks.

Bulk/Aesthetics: These are the biggest--and related--points of contention. Much has been said about this, so I'll say this plainly: if you don't like the pictures of this case, nothing about seeing this in person will change your mind. From a usability standpoint, if you're a male wearing slim or skinny jeans, the front pocket is out of the question. Back pockets work surprisingly well, and retrieving the phone quickly is slower but still doable. If you're a female and wear skinny jeans, you'll need to carry this in your purse for sure. You'll also need to make room accordingly.

Feel: Somewhat subjective, but important enough to warrant mentioning. The screen protector that comes with the front panel of the hardshell interior doesn't quite sit flush the screen. As a result, the case takes off some of the "snappiness" of the UI. This is most noticeable when you lightly swipe the screen, since it sometimes doesn't register. Additionally, you can actually feel the screen depress slightly while working with the phone. This is less annoying than when I first noticed it, but it's still an issue I'm struggling with personally.

Headphone jack: The headphone jack is troubling, and this is where the bulk of the case works against it. Earbuds with square, 90 degree jacks (or even straight jacks that are bulkier than usual) will NOT fit on this case. The bulk of the case means that a 3.5mm that isn't straight and slim won't sit flush with the jack. This also applies for the auxiliary cables to connect to your car's entertainment system. (For reference, I'm using the Monster aux cables, which are slightly larger at the 3.5mm end.)

Lightning cover: I thought the cover for this was well done. The lightning connector sits well protected by a cover that integrates nicely with the case.

Recap/Bottom Line: This case is worth the 4 stars for the sheer amount of abuse it can withstand. The tradeoffs to usability and aesthetics are understandable, but noteworthy. If you've read this far and are still on the fence, you should probably weigh this case against a slimmer case with a separate screen protector.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its Hard To Dislike an iPhone, but November 3, 2012
By G. Clough TOP 1000 REVIEWER
I've owned the iPhone 4,Samsung Galaxy S3, and have tried the HTC Evo and Samsung Note, and was weary to upgrade to the iPhone 5. Apple delivered, but some say they delivered to little and I agree.
The price is stupidly high and the larger screen size was not reason alone for me to upgrade, but Once I picked it up it fit perfectly in my hand and just felt right. Unlike my iPhone 4 which I though was a bit small (hence why I bought S3) this really gives the S3 a run for its money. Let me start by going over the design.

ϟDESIGNϟ
For all those upgrading from an old iPhone or an android, when you pick this up you will notice how incredibly light this phone is. Some say that this is a fault, and makes the phone feel cheap, but I don't feel that at all. Despite its lightness, It feels like it is built tough and is truly designed to last. The 4" screen was a great move by Apple, its not too big like the Note, but its not too small, like some say the iPhone 4 was. The screen doesn't intrude my ability to thumb away at all my applications with ease, which was one of the faults of the Samsung Note. Depending on your hand size and finger length, it may be hard to reach the power button without adjusting your hand position. I had no trouble with this but when I handed this to a friend, she was fumbling to hit the power button and slide to unlock without first adjusting her hand position several times. Turning the phone over you will notice the 2 tone effect on the bad which is visually stunning and feels incredible to the touch. The Glass on the back is meant to complement the front's strong Gorilla Glass screen, which it does perfectly. One of the main problems I always hear and encounter is dropping the iPhone 4, and whoops, the back cracked. This no longer happens, Apple clearly took time into making a tougher exterior without sacrificing pure beauty in the design. One major problem was the edges seemed to get minor dents just from being in my pocket and having it on the table. This can easily be solved with any case but was disappointed how that problem still occurred. Apple then solves another problem that some users experienced, drop calls. I immediately noticed a stronger signal and a more precise GPS lock on when using Google's and Apple's map software. The Headphone Jack was also moved to the bottom left of the phone which I thoroughly appreciated. The lightning port is wonderful once you make the switch since it feels more sturdy and no worries on what way to plug it in, but having to buy an extra $100 worth of plugs is annoying. You can always buy an adapter if you have a speaker system designed for the old ipod/iphone but that gets annoying after a short time. The Front Facing Camera was moved to the top-middle of the screen which makes Face Time look much more natural. The Home Button also underwent some modification since it feels much more robust. The phone feels much more natural in my hand compared to some other phones I have tried and still feels strong despite its lightness.

ϟDISPLAYϟ
I compared my iPhone 5 right next to my iPhone 4, 4s, Samsung Galaxy S3, and a HTC Evo. The difference in quality, brightness, and crispness is apparent immediately next to the old iPhones and HTC, but it doesn't seem better then the S3. For watching movies, I would choose my S3 10 out of 10 times versus this iPhone. Despite that, the 4" display and the crisp and bright display make this a very close second to the S3. With the bigger screen, people may expect typing to be easier, but its really not. I still get the cramped feeling. The taller display allows more information to be seen on web pages and while reading, but many Applications haven't been updated yet making it feel useless. Even after getting scores of updates to better fit the iPhone, over half of my Applications still are playing catch up. This problem is said to be fixed by the end of the year as more and more developers realize they need to fix it.

ϟINTERFACEϟ
I wont go over IOS 6 or anything of that nature because that is a completely different review. The 4" screen boasts an extra row of Applications which makes my home screen feel much more natural. I truly enjoy this software over my Android counterparts but that is simply a matter of preference. The Screen also adds extra space when pulling down notifications. I can now see the weather, my calender, a couple text messages, and maybe an email or 2 without any troubles at all! One thing I miss from moving from my S3 and my Windows 8 Desktop are the live tiles. Sure the Calender is technically a 'live' tile but Windows 8 and Android seemed to perfect it leaving Apple to play catch up.

ϟHARDWAREϟ
The A6 Chip is dual core and doesn't disappoint. I thought Apple would go all in with a quad-core, but they stuck with a Dual Core Processor, and I understand why. Geekbench tested the hardware and they concluded it was twice as fast as the iPhone 4s (which I don't feel it is), but I don't disagree with how truly powerful the phone is. The phone boots in less then 30 seconds which is impressive compared to my iPhone 4, HTC Evo, and even Samsung Galaxy S3. Another reason Apple stuck with the Dual Core is that a Quad Core would put a damper on the battery life, which the iPhone really doesn't need considering I can't remove the battery. The Multi-Tasking is really good, just as I expected, and works just as well as it does on my iPad 3.

ϟBATTERYϟ
I was expecting, like many people, a removable battery to offset the not too good battery life. This wish was not granted, but I don't really mind. I haven't really encountered any problems, I use my phone to make some calls, listen to music, and text throughout the day, with the occasional gaming break. The phone could easily handle all of this without needing a recharge.

The Verdict:
It is really hard to dislike an iPhone but this really seems to missing something. It is missing that undefinable quality that makes me want to stand for hours waiting inline to be the first one to get the awaited iPhone. I am going to keep this iPhone, but am going to be using my Galaxy S3.
